US Raw Material Imports For First Five Months Of 2015

The United States imported 40,693 kilograms of hog bristle in May 2015, up 57 percent from 25,922 kilograms imported in May 2014. During the first five months of 2015, 106,289 kilograms of hog bristle were imported, down 18 percent from 128,886 kilograms imported during the first five months of 2014.

China sent 102,933 kilograms of hog bristle to the United States during the first five months of 2015.

The average price per kilogram for May 2015 was $15.72, down 18 percent from the average price per kilogram for May 2014 of $19.15. The average price per kilogram for the first five months of 2015 was $16.50, up 18 percent from the average price per kilogram of $13.99 for the first five months of 2014.

Broom And Mop Handles

The import total of broom and mop handles during May 2015 was 1.4 million, down 36 percent from 2.2 million for May 2014. During the first five months of 2015, 7.1 million broom and mop handles were imported, down slightly from 7.2 million for the first five months of 2014.

During the first five months of 2015, the United States received 4.1 million broom and mop handles from Brazil, 1.4 million from Honduras and 1.2 million from China.

The average price per handle for May 2015 was $1.05, up 8 percent from 97 cents for May 2014. The average price for the first five months of 2015 was 96 cents, up 5 percent from 91 cents for the first five months of 2014.

Brush Backs

May 2015 imports of brush backs totaled 648,847, up 4 percent from 625,546 for May 2014. During the first five months of 2015, 2.5 million brush backs were imported, down 7 percent from 2.7 million for the first five months of 2014.

Canada sent 1.3 million brush backs to the United States during the first five months of 2015, while Sri Lanka shipped 810,240.

The average price per brush back was 43 cents during May 2015, up 2 cents from the average price for May 2014. For the first five months of 2015, the average price per brush back was 46 cents, down 1 cent from the average price for the first five months of 2014.

Metal Handles

The import total of metal handles during May 2015 was 2.2 million, down 35 percent from 3.4 million for May 2014. During the first five months of 2015, 11 million metal handles were imported, down 15 percent from 13 million for the first five months of 2014.

During the first five months of 2015, Spain exported 4.9 million metal handles to the United States, while China sent 4.7 million.

The average price per handle for May 2015 was 96 cents, up 22 percent from 79 cents for May 2014. The average price for the first five months of 2015 was 96 cents, up 19 percent from the average price for the first five months of 2014 of 81 cents.
